PRASLINES A PARIS

I hope your weekends are all off to a good start. The past 10 days have been pretty intense with work on my end, but finally things are starting to calm down. As I munch on some praslines for my sanity, I had the urge to share this adorable shop here on the blog.

I discovered the Praslines de Mazet from my in-laws. As they live in Montargis (at that really awesome country house) and my father-in-law grew up one town over, every special occasion involved a little pastel-colored box from the local shop, Praslines de Mazet. With coffee, as a gift.. there always seemed to be a box or bowl around the house. I go gaga for their pistachio praslines. The shop in the town of Montargis (about an hour and a half from Paris) is stunning: the dark wood with stained glass, shelves filled with treats and bowls to grab a taste… I always thought it was the most charming little shop and loved getting loved ones gifts from there. Not to mention the precious packaging… oh la la.

It’s safe to say that ever since they opened their second shop in the heart of the Marais with the same codes of the original shop, sporting the Paris-Montargis on their yellow storefront, I get my Mazet fix a lot more often.

SWEET TOOTH GALS

The recent sweet run with the girls was at Les Fées Pâtissières, a sweet tooth haven in the Marais. Their cakes are preciously crafted in little cup, all topped with a a flavor from their ingredients. Some are round, some are in stacks, but all with their own twist which allows you to easily guess the flavors that you’re about to indulge in. Their cakes are displayed in dreamy glass domes, with floral hints and leaves all around. It was a perfect mix of a Parisian sweet shop with FernGully. The space doesn’t have a spot to eat in, so we headed to a quintessential Parisian café to taste our sweets with a café crème.

CAKE PORN

For Louis and I’s anniversary, I got a scrumptious cake from Sugar Daze. Like last year, I like to put a little phrase on top to personalize it a bit for my love. I like to keep things simple and heartfelt, and a cake certainly does the trick. This tradition of ours will certainly go on forever and ever.

What better way to celebrate love than with a delicious cake?

What do you do on your special days?

THE HUMBLE PIE STORE

Every time I go back to Denver there are new precious places that have opened. I had seen some pictures of this place on my dear friend Rachel’s blog, and made sure she took me here when I was visiting earlier this summer.

I just love pie. My favorite is banana cream. It’s also a truly American treat that doesn’t really exist in Paris. I wonder if it ever will. Something about pie is so traditional and just a staple on the dessert menu. It’s a huge part of festivities like Thanksgiving and Christmas, or even just a summertime barbecue or picnic. I find that so exciting, it also makes my tummy grumble.

The Humble Pie Store is located slightly north of the Baker neighborhood, on Elati. It’s a precious corner shop with bricks and fantastic tables.

Whether it’s your sweet tooth or savory bug itching, it’s the perfect place for a slice and a coffee.

BRIDAL SHOWER GOODNESS

Last Sunday I went to the most lovely bridal shower for Sasha.

This special afternoon was filled with giggles, flowers, yummy treats and all things girly.

This particular day was also the warmest day in Paris since last September, and it really felt like Spring was actually here. The air was clear and everyone seemed so much more awake.

With a dreamy view of that big tower and some familiar faces*. we cheered our coupes of champagne rosé to love, the future and the adventures to come for the bride to be.

I couldn’t stand not sharing these photos. From the lace to the ribbon to the macarons… precious as can be. I love being able to see the joy shine out of people’s faces like sunbeams. It was one of those days, filled with those kind of moments.

Wishing all of the best to Sasha for her marriage and her future.

A special thanks to the lovely hosts, for putting on such a marvelous event.

*Familiar faces: Anne, Kasia & Olivia
