LEMON DROP MARTINI AT THE CRUISE ROOM

One of Denver’s treasures is the ever so flappy Cruise Room. The Cruise Room is one of my step dad’s favorite places, and is the favorite for a lemon drop martini. With the fam we turned back in time one summer night, to this wonderfully 30s bar hidden inside the Oxford Hotel, for a cocktail and some good tunes.

The bar itself is claimed to be Denver’s first bar, opening after the repeal of the Prohibition in 1933. Believe it or not, it remains untouched, with its original art deco fabulously vintage decor. The lights, the walls, the glasses and the neon lights, the whole feel of being in the Cruise Room made me feel like I was in a 1930’s movie, out on the town.

Not to mention there is an actual jukebox.

A STROLL IN LOHI

All this gray in Paris was making me want to show some bright colors from across the pond.

Memories from summer are still drifting along in my thoughts everyday, in particular, this magical day in the Lower Highlands with my honey.

We strolled under a cloudless blue sky, and enjoyed a burger and beer at Highland Tap and Burger (on my Denver guide!), one of my favorite spots. Did I mention that painted bricks are just fantastic?

Date Night @ Tom’s Urban 24

There’s a new icon in Larimer Square with a modern twist on comfort food…

Tom’s Urban 24 opened last fall, and has something new to offer the Denver foodie crowd.

Not only do they have a menu that is to die for (I can’t stop thining about it), but also they are open 24/7. What’s better than that? A delicious grub, drink and snack at any hour of the day or night? Yes please.

To further enlighten you with this place’s awesomeness, this Tom guy is the mastermind and founder behind Smashburger and has the most crazy and exciting background in food science, marketing and branding for various national fast food chains. I’m not kidding when I say he had something to do with Stuffed Crust Pizza and McGriddle. According to the Westword, he’s an R&D wonderboy.

He sounds like a pretty terrific and inspirational guy.

So, when I was home for Christmas, Kristen and I went there for a revisited-comfort-food dinner date.

After a long debate over all of the choices and what to get for dinner (and of course after the Blue Cheese and Bacon Deviled Eggs as an appetizer), we settled for one of their Urban pizzas and the Shrimp Mac ‘n Cheese.

If you want to also drool over their menu, you can check it out here. I am craving most things on the menu as I type this. There is such a large variety of food and flavors, all Colorado sourced! Tom’s works with 30 different Colorado food companies and produce farmers to offer their ever so delicious “comfort food with a modern twist”.

We both paired with a pint. K went with the Hoegaarden that they had on tap, and I went with the local Hoss Rye Lager from Great Divide Brewery.

I’m dreaming of this place and wish so much somewhere with such delicious grub and fabulously retro and urban atmosphere could open in Paris. A great place to enjoy delicious food.

If you happen to go to Denver, check it out for yourself. Your jaw will drop.

Date with Mama

This post is dedicated to my awesome possum maman. If only we could have lunch dates every week.

One of my last days in Denver this past spring, my mom and I went on a little lunch date at Vert Kitchen, that my had recommended. What a magical little place. It’s the sort of thing I dream of sometimes on the weekends while living so far away. A little stroll on Pearl Street… the view of the Rockies on the horizon…

What is better than not only hanging out with your mom, but having blueberry lemonade and a delicious little club & soup?!?

Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are!

The Denver Highlands : Colorful This + That

One of Denver’s most colorful and trendy neighborhoods is waiting for you, right northwest of the city center! Have you been?

This is a neighborhood that has gotten quite big and hip since I moved to Franceland, and while I was back in May, I was so happy to have wandered it with two of my favourite people. The Highlands neighborhoods (Highlands and West Highlands) are located just northwest of downtown Denver. It is known by many for its little colorful houses painted ever so intricately with adorable front lawns, and of course now for it’s trendy vibes and shops and businesses. With a view of downtown Denver and the Millenium bridge, it is the perfect place to go for a stroll right outside the city center where you can feast your eyes.

Allie and Jay (aren’t they just the cutest?) took me to brunch at Duo before we wandered and took a million pictures, ending our afternoon with a cone at Little Man Ice Cream, right under the lights and gigantic windows of Linger. It really was a lovely afternoon.

You can check out their post on this day right here.

Not only is it an adorable area to stroll through, but a wonderful place to find trinkets and eat delicious things.
